A Study on Private Transfers in Korea : Focusing on the Recipients of the Korea Teacher¢¥s Pension


Abstract
This study is the empirical research to find out the determinant factors by which the private transfer is motivated and the relationship between social security transfers and private transfers in Korea. The sample group of this study is the recipients of The Korea Teacher¢¥s Pension(KTP) in Seoul, Korea.
This research is analyzed by the procedure of OLS analysis. And the results are as follows.
First, the most important determinant is the, filial piety and visit variable. This results show that in Korea. social-cultural factors is able to explain the motivation of private financial transfers. That is, western theories of private transfer motivation such as the altruistic theory and exchange theory can not explain Korean private transfer behaviors. Second, in the group of the recipients of KTP, social security transfers do not have influence on private financial transfers and private time transfers significantly. This show that displacement relationship or complement relationship between social security transfers and private transfers is not able to explain the Korean relationship between the two sectors.
